This beast of a bag was designed specifically for and with the assistance of train crews and is currently my most popular item!  For railroad train crews, quite often it is necessary to walk quite a distance to get to your train, engines or dog catch van, while carrying your bag or bags and possibly an ice chest.  The daypack type bag frees up and balances the weight of all that you need to carry as a rail for both walking and getting up on the engine.

Along with the common features all of our bags share...

  • Dimensions: 21” H x 15” W x 81/5” ...footprint approx. 15” x 15 “.
  • Full height open slash pocket on “back” side to allow custom padding to suit your needs.
  • Capacity: Approximately 3900-4000 cubic inches in two compartments...
  • The main compartment measures 15 W-20 H-9 D  for about 2700 cu. in.  There is a 14" deep slip pocket on inside that can be used for a laptop, magazines, etc.
  • General Code Of Operating Rules (GCOR) compartment...for all required publications or documentation your railroad may require. This compartment also has an exterior zipper pocket and slash pocket for quick access to train lists, time tables, radio pack sets or any other items you typically use during your tour of duty or road trip.
  • Large, open, elastic topped pouch on each side of bag for lanterns, thermos, shoes, etc.
  • Wide, closed cell foam, padded shoulder straps with super lock adjusters.
  • Compression straps on sides to snug bag against your body.
  • Double carry/hang loops on top of bag.
  • Railroad tested!!!

Great bag
I've had my overnighter backpack for 5 years now and still like it as much as the day it arrived at my door step. My conductor was asking me today about it and I told him the same thing that I tell everyone. "I got this bag to get rid of my lunch box." I still carry a lunch box because I feel like I need to bring everything I own to the hotel. With this bag it is easy to carry everything I think I need and also everything that I really need. a great grip II
Wrote a review on this bag a while ago. I have nothing to say but good things about this bag. The color that i wanted was not a option at the time. However I called the people and they returned my call-giving me the color option that i wanted. No need to pay three times as much for the "others". This bag is it. Takes anything i throw at it and has not shown ANY sign of wear. Pictures don't do this bag justice. Looking forward to many years of service.

a great grip II
Coming back at you again a few months later after writing my 1st review. Simply put, I am so glad I decided to purchase this bag. Two thumbs up Autumn Creek as this is a beautifully designed grip for road conductors. I can carry so much more than my previously owned duffle grip that was a little more expensive than this. Everything has a place as I try to compartmentalize the bag. Added an internal frame and some zipper pulls myself and now this bag is truly functional. I get sooo many compliments on the color pattern that I chose. The wonderful people at Autumn Creek called me personally to ensure my order was correct as the color scheme wasn't on the order option screen at the time. Thank you so much Autumn Creek. You saved my back and I don't mind walking as much!!!

Bag is quality beyond belief
I am a Union Pacific road conductor here on the Portland subdivision. I also have a bag fetish. Joking. I have had many many duffles, and back packs. I have had the large out of tower bag from autumn creek for ten years now, it is still not showing any wear!! I brought it home today and threw it in the washer because some mystery liquid leaked out on the floor from the toilet compartment.. I am in denial what it was.. I wanted to share my experience to any of you rails out there that are on the fence trying to make up your mind. Buy one! The many many compartments in this bag make keeping things organized so you don't have to dig through pockets for whatever you mind need blasting down the tracks. The small glove bags they make are a bargain. I have four in different colors, so I know at a glance where my meds are, toiletries, and which one is my electrical chargers and cords. I cannot believe how heavy my bag gets with stuff, constantly flung around to get on my back. No sign of ripping. Excellent bag, five stars.

A great grip
Mines just arrived today. Immediately I took the stuff out of my old duffle bag style grip (that costs almost twice as much) and I had plenty of room to spare. I can already see that this bag will make for some pretty comfortable trips as I can carry more of the stuff I need. Now I can hump it and not have to worry about throwing my back out.  Seems to be made of a durable material as well. I will be writing another review soon to tell you my pro's and con's. My only regret is I should have bought this bag sooner.

Excellent Bag.
Just received my new bag yesterday. This bag was purchased to replace the Mainline bag I've been using flawlessly for 5 years. Mainline bag still looks and functions like I got it yesterday awesome bag just needed something a little bigger.

The Overnighter Big Backpack is an awesome bag. I couldn't believe everything I was able to full this bag with and still have room leftover. The front pocket on bag is extremely roomy handling my rulebook binder two timetables and 3 more required publications and still had more room.

Main compartment had room for a shoebox yes I said shoebox size 14 (I like to carry flip flops in my bag and keep them in a shoebox), shave bag, 6x4x2 hard travel case, 2 pairs jean, 3 shirts and a couple more items I like to carry. The back pocket (lap top pocket) as my froggtogg rainsuit.

Both side pockets are crazy big. A lantern, flashlight and air guage in one radio batteries and safety shields in the other. The top front pocket has mare the adequate room for several pair of gloves time book or anything else you may need to grab in a hurry.

I looked at another comparable bag but just couldn't do it. I have used Autumn Creek Luguage for the past 5 years with not a single issue and have several co-workers who use their luggage as well and just couldn't see making a switch.

If you want a strong bag made in America with an excellent garuntee by a bag from Autumn Creek. You won't be sorry you did.

This Is A Great Grip!
I'm a proud owner of this model. I am a conductor with BNSF. I can put all my stuff in it. I like to use the front for my rule book, hard clipboard, and binders I carry with my territory sheets. I like to use the little compartments in front of those for my phone charger, little stuff like air gauge, axle clicker, any of my gadgets. They all fit easily, I usually even stash some snacks up front in enclosed part. I like to put my hand sanitizer in the very front pockets for when nature calls me to the rail pail.  The side pockets easily hold my lantern, radio set, and a frog tog rain suit. In the back zippered compartment I keep extra track warrant books I like to keep about 3 in it. The inside has a nice open area where I usually keep two changes of clothes, a pair of tennis shoes, my shave kit, and it has a pocket in there I keep my tablet in its case in, or a handheld game, it would hold both pretty easy.  I put my work boots in it easily when I deadhead from a hotel home in tennis shoes. Its massive. I have abused the zippers and I can't break them. They are tough. The bag still looks brand new, I'm not sure where they get this material, but its great! Very durable. I think it would last a lifetime.  I have no negative issues with it. Except when I fill it up to maximum, which I usually don't its very heavy. That isn't a knock on the bag. It can hold up to it. I usually throw it over one shoulder, I have never thought the weight is an issue to the bags integrity, it has a stretch to the bag and shoulder straps when its fully loaded. I believe this material is made to do that, and it does and excellent job. I would recommend this bag to any conductor, or locomotive engineer that likes to carry their full rule book, or just likes to carry a lot of stuff. You will have problems filling this up. Its just a plain great grip!

Best bag for a railroader
I absolutely love my Overnighter Big Backpack. If anyone is looking for a rugged grip that's as tough as the railroad life, this is the one! Don't bother looking anywhere else, this is the BEST.  I also have the Local bag to go along with it and they make a great pair. Thank you Autumn Creek for making great bags!

Great bag
This grip is great. Has lots of space for the ever growing list of crap we railroaders need to carry. My only suggestion to make this even better would be to add some more pockets to the outside, for smaller things like phone, wallet, watch etc and also on the inside, and maybe a firm piece of foam in the back. Other than that I highly recommend this to anyone with doubts.

Sweet Bag !
Just finished my first railroad voyage with my new (Overnighter Big Backpack), and I couldn't be happier. All my gear, clothing, etc. all in one pack. The load feels much lighter  on the way to and from the train , and having my hands free while navigating the hazards of the right of way is priceless ! Thank You for a fine American Made Product. Sincerely, M.H. Tipton, U.P., Sparks NV.

Great Bag
Definitely built for railroaders. As a trainman I carry lots of stuff, this carries it all plus .
There is a place to organize all the junk I carry for them and places for my gear. Well made and with the warranty peace of mind. Cheaper than the other guys with a warranty and specific for rails.
3 months and put to a vigorous workout this is a winner.
Hard to say I am excited over a grip, but I am.Makes the past 20 years and countless grips seem stupid.

Icarry way too much stuff
I'm a  locomotive engineer for NS. I bought this bag because I got tired of continually replacing the cheap grips from the big box stores. I've  been using this grip for 6 months now and I couldn't be  any happier. the only problem is I have so much room in it I think I have to use every square inch of it. Sometimes I end up making two days held away so I pack my grip accordingly. This grip has enough room for that, plus rule books, and most importantly my laptop. I know I am grasping  for straws to find anything negative about this grip, but if you have this grip fully loaded with shoes lantern and anything else stuffed into the two side pockets you will have a hard time walking through the doors on a standard cab locomotive while wearing it on your back. it will be too wide for  the narrow doors. on a wide body you will have no problem at all. Over all I can safely say this may just be the last grip I buy.

Can't beat this grip for the $ and quality
I've had this bag since July 2012 and I couldn't be a happier person. I purchased it with the $300+ dollars I received from my previous grip I returned.

The Overnighter Big Backpack is railroad, but it won't railroad you.

Wow is about all I can say!!!
Bought my new Overnighter Big Backpack on Monday the 22, it is now Thursday the 25 and it arrived this morning. Took my old grip apart and started loading the new Autumn Creek Grip, after three jackets, lantern, rule book, track charts, authority books, all my overnight things(toothbrush, soap, etc.), extra set of shoes, extra set of cloths, and all the other stuff we carry for a 36 hr round trip I still have enough room to fit a lot more stuff. Shipping was very fast, the staff was extremely helpful, and I am almost disappointed in my self that I didn't order one of these bags from day one instead of buying three others and destroying them. The Autumn Creek bag hangs comfortably on your back and the design of the bag distributes the weight of my 80lbs worth of gear so it feels actually lighter, which is a huge advantage if you need to do any kind of walking while carrying it.  I am now a fan of Autumn Creek and will recommend them to anyone looking for quality, rugged, and reliable soft side luggage.  Weather you use it for work or just travel it will be the only bag you ever need!!

Thank You Autumn Creek for building an awesome bag for the everyday Rail.

only bag you will need.
I bought this bag to replace two pieces of luggage that I would carry. One for clothes and stuff for the hotel, the other for work supplies. And also a lunch box. I combined all my luggage to just this one bag. Fully loaded this thing weighs about 70 pounds and still holding strong after a year of use.    I couldn't be happier.

I am a conductor for Norfolk Southern and I was in market looking for a new grip. I needed my grip to have enough room for me to carry everything I needed as a conductor on the road as well as in the yard. I have purchased different types of bags and luggage, they were nice but they were not made for the type of equipment that a conductor must carry. I came across two companies that make grips for railroaders. Autumn Creek prices were much more suitable for my wallet. I got my grip and I cannot be more please with my purchase. The craftmanship of the bag is unbeleiveablely awesome. Gots lots of space and pockets to put all my stuff I need as an conductor and the material that is used is very durable. I would like to thank Ms.Carole and Ms.Jan for their help. They were very polite and helpful in the purchasing of my grip. I am going to purchase the Overnigher II for the summer months for when I don't have to carry so much stuff.

Thanks Again

Best Grip EVER!
After 10 years and trying 20+ bags to find the perfect way to carry all I need on the road I finally did myself a favor and got this bag.  Absolutely the best grip, hands down.  So much room, perfectly designed places to put everything you have to carry.  Rule books, lantern, gloves, dark and clear glasses, everything has it's place.  You won't regret it!

Incredible GRIP!
I can't believe this thing could handle everything. I took two bags and condensed them into this one. I stuck a full-sized laptop, lantern, railroad books, clothes, radio, full rain suit, running shoes, gloves, extra batteries, toiletries, and even a back pack cover. I still have room! You can separate work stuff from home stuff. Incredible bag.

Great for everything you need
Had this bag for about nine months now. And I use it for road and local service. It has all these nice places to stash stuff. And made of good materials and hardware.

As an engineer it has enough room for the things I need in a road bag. I carry shoes, extra clothes, toiletries, laptop, chargers, all my rule books. Plus all that extra stuff that just weighs ya down. It all fits. Usually with plenty of room to spare.

It can be a bit big for a local bag if you are a light traveler. One reason I wish thy still carried the Overnighter II.

I have owned other bags that are "railroad" approved. And this here is of the same great quality with WAY more features. And a lot easier on the wallet.

It will be on my shoulder for many years to come.

Thanks for your hard work!

My First and the last I will need! Built tough!
This bag will last forever! I often say I feel like I have a knuckle in my grip. It is so tough that I tend to over load. Love my overnighter. I have been using it for a year now and have zero complaints. Reccomend it all the time. Worth every penny or mile if you are a railroader!

great bag
This bag is huge and awsome. I can put all my work things in it, winter coveralls, and all my over night items. When I go to work I have this bag and my lunch box and that is everything for a 2-3 day trip.
